 always something else Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 - 10:22 a.m.
Sometimes I wonder what else? What else can happen? I try not to wonder that because I know there is always going to be something else right around the corner. We went camping this weekend. With two kids. What were we thinking? We got up to the mountains Saturday morning. We were planning on heading back around 1p.m. on Sunday. As soon as we got up on Sunday we both started packing up. Not a word was said by either of us, wondering if the other was ready to go. It was just a given. We were headed home. It was the second most miserable camping trip I can remember. The first was 3 days of camping in the rain when little E was about 10 or 11 months old. I figured it would be better this time because at least baby A can walk. Not so much. However, I think she was cutting about 4 teeth this weekend. Sigh. Not sure I will try that adventure again for a while. That's not the "what else can happen" story. We got back from camping early and A (my youngest daughter) called and said she was headed to the emergency room. She was having terrible stomach pains. She has never gone to the emergency room. I think the last time she went was when she was around 4 and sliced her forehead open on a marble step. I should have met her at that point but I had just gotten back from camping and hadn't showered or anything. Plus the hospital she went to was about 50 miles away. So I told her to call me and let me know. She called around 4 or 4:30. They had done a CTscan. Again, I should have headed down there. She called again at 5 and said they were going to do surgery to remove her appendix "some time this evening". I told her I was headed there to be with her. I still had to shower (didn't want to walk in smelling like a campfire). I showered, and headed down south to where she was. When I got there they had already performed the surgery and she was in the recovery room. It made me sad that I wasn't there for her before she went in to surgery. I'm sure she was scared. Her boyfriend was there with her but still I wish I had gone sooner. She came out of the surgery just fine. I told her I was sorry for not getting there sooner, she said it was ok, she was just happy her boyfriend was there at least. She was a real trooper through it all! I am proud of her. I hung out at the hospital with her yesterday and took her home. Poor thing was in quite a bit of pain! She is doing fine though and I'm sure she will recover quite nicely. She had three little incisions on her belly that were just covered with little band-aids! haha! Glad they didn't have to slice her open from stem to stern!! So my blessing to count today... my daughter had the sense to get to the hospital and she made it through surgery just fine. Now I guess am ready for whatever will be handed to me next.
